October 26, 1909
At College Park, Md., Lt. Frederick E. Humphreys became the first Army officer to solo the Army's first aircraft. Minutes later, Lt. Frank P. Lahn became the second. They soloed after three hours of instruction by Wilbur Wright.

October 26, 1925
Lt. James H. Doolittle won the Schneider Cup Race at Baltimore, Md. in a Curtiss R3C-2 floatplane racer. He averaged 232.6 mph.

October 26, 1950
Far East Air Forces Combat Cargo Command C-119s delivered 28.5 tons of ammunition, fuel and oil to friendly ground troops near Unsan, some 50 miles south of Chosan.

October 26, 1953
The Convair XF-102, a delta-wing supersonic interceptor made its first test flight from Edwards AFB, Calif.
